🔥 Sawn Asunder: The Prophet Who Preached Until It Killed Him
When kings bowed to idols and priests lost their fire, Isaiah stood alone—and was sawn in two for the truth.
“They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword… of whom the world was not worthy.”
—Hebrews 11:37

🕊️ INTRODUCTION: A CALL THAT COST EVERYTHING
Isaiah’s ministry was no easy road. Called to preach for 40 years to a stubborn and rebellious people who would largely reject his message, he faced kings who failed to lead and priests who lost their passion. Tradition tells us Isaiah’s unwavering faithfulness cost him his life—King Manasseh had him sawn asunder from head to toe.
Yet Isaiah’s prophetic voice still echoes today—a fire that refuses to be extinguished.

📖 ISAIAH: A BIBLE IN ONE BOOK
Isaiah’s 66 chapters mirror the entire Bible’s 66 books:
• Chapters 1–39: Judgment, law, and calls to repentance (Old Testament themes)
• Chapters 40–66: Comfort, redemption, and prophecy of Messiah’s coming and kingdom (New Testament themes)
Key verses showing the shift:
• “Your hands are full of blood” (Isaiah 1:15) — judgment for sin
• “Comfort, comfort My people…” (Isaiah 40:1) — promise of restoration
• “He was pierced for our transgressions” (Isaiah 53:5) — prophecy of Christ’s sacrifice
• “Behold, I create new heavens and a new earth” (Isaiah 65:17) — promise of new creation

👑 KINGS AND 🛐 PRIESTS: FAILURES THAT SET THE STAGE
Isaiah prophesied during the reigns of:
• Uzziah: Pride brought leprosy (2 Chronicles 26:16–21)
• Jotham: Righteous but passive
• Ahaz: Wicked; burned his son; refused God’s counsel (Isaiah 7:1–17)
• Hezekiah: Reformer who showed weakness by revealing God’s treasures to Babylon (Isaiah 39)
Isaiah also condemned the priests:
“His watchmen are blind, they are all ignorant; they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark… they are shepherds that cannot understand.”
—Isaiah 56:10–11
Priests had lost their fire and function, allowing rebellion and idolatry to thrive.

🔥 ISAIAH 6: THE PROPHET’S CALL IN THE FIRE
Isaiah 6 is one of the most profound and dramatic chapters in the entire Bible, giving us a window into the prophet’s divine commissioning and the reality of prophetic ministry:
1. The Vision of God’s Glory
“In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple.” (Isaiah 6:1)
The sovereign, holy God reigns above all earthly powers—even as kings fail.
2. The Seraphim and the Call to Holiness
“Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!’” (Isaiah 6:2–3)
The call to holiness is the heartbeat of prophetic ministry.
3. Isaiah’s Brokenness and Cleansing
“And I said: ‘Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!’ Then flew one of the seraphim to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar.” (Isaiah 6:5–6)
Real prophetic ministry begins with personal repentance and cleansing.
4. The Purifying Touch
“And he touched my mouth and said: ‘Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.’” (Isaiah 6:7)
The altar fire empowers the prophet to speak.
5. The Divine Commission
“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here am I! Send me.’” (Isaiah 6:8)
Obedience follows cleansing and empowerment.
6. The Hard Mission Foretold
“And he said, ‘Go, and say to this people: “Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive.” Make the heart of this people dull, and their ears heavy, and blind their eyes…’” (Isaiah 6:9–10)
The prophet is sent to a people who will resist the message.
7. The Remnant and Future Hope
“And I said, ‘How long, O Lord?’ And he said: ‘Until cities lie waste without inhabitant, and houses without people, and the land is a desolation…’” (Isaiah 6:11–12)
Judgment is coming, but God preserves a faithful remnant.

✝️ ISAIAH’S PROPHETIC VISION OF CHRIST
Isaiah saw the Messiah’s birth, mission, suffering, and triumph centuries before Jesus walked the earth:
• “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son…” (Isaiah 7:14)
• “He was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities…” (Isaiah 53:5)
• “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me… to proclaim liberty to the captives…” (Isaiah 61:1)
• “For to us a child is born… and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God…” (Isaiah 9:6)

🙌 APPLICATION: THE ISAIAH GENERATION TODAY
Isaiah’s life and call teach us that:
• When kings fail to lead with courage and righteousness, the culture decays.
• When priests lose passion, the altar grows cold.
• When the prophetic voice is rejected or persecuted, the call remains to stand firm in fire and faith.
God calls us today to:
• Be kings and priests who walk in righteousness and zeal (Revelation 1:6).
• Carry prophetic fire, boldly declaring God’s Word regardless of the crowd’s response.
• Be the remnant who prepares the way for the King’s return.

🙏 PROPHETIC PRAYER
Lord God Almighty,
Just as You called Isaiah through vision, cleansing, and commissioning, call us today.
Touch our lips with holy fire and empower us to speak Your truth boldly.
Strengthen us when the world resists and hardens its heart.
Raise up a generation that will stand in the fire, unashamed and unwavering.
Prepare us as kings and priests for Your Kingdom, that we might see Your glory fill the earth.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
